Linfield falls to Willamette in non-conference game

Willamette scored eight runs in its final three at-bats to come from behind in a 10-5 non-conference win over Linfield Wednesday at John Lewis Field.

The Bearcats scored a run in each of the first two innings before the Wildcats sent four runners across the plate in the fourth inning. Nick Holm, Cameron Skinner and Trent Wainfeld notched three consecutive RBI singles. Two batters later, Garrett Moen laced one to left field to drive in another run for the away team.

Willamette made it a one-run game in the sixth, but Linfield got that run back the next half inning on a bases-loaded double play that scored the runner from third. The Bearcats plated five runs in the seventh inning to turn a two-run deficit into an 8-5 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the eighth and retired the side in the ninth to improve to 12-7 on the season.

Wainfeld went 3 for 4 in his fourth straight start in right field. He's gotten a hit in all four games. Holm collected two hits while Jake Hoskins drew three walks and scored twice.

Both teams threw seven pitchers in the nearly three-hour game. Pruitt Spritzer earned the win for Willamette to improve to 4-0 on the year. He tossed three perfect innings to close it out. Braden Thorn threw two scoreless innings in relief for the Wildcats.
