Victim of Two Fraudulent Financial Transactions
Town of Lakeview (“Town”) recently discovered that it is the victim of two fraudulent financial transactions that may be due to a cybersecurity or other breach. At this time, the total loss is estimated to be approximately $199,000.00.An incident response team has been activated to investigate the fraudulent transactions, evaluate the extent of the transactions, and ensure that technology and policies are implemented to prevent future fraudulent transactions. Town has also initiated its own internal investigation. Town is assessing all available avenues to recoup the funds.Notifications have been made to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and other appropriate authorities. Town will assist and cooperate with any investigation conducted by the authorities. Town is taking appropriate action to hold accountable whomever is responsible for the fraudulent transactions. To prioritize security and ensure the integrity of the pending investigation, at this time Town will not release or provide any additional information concerning the fraudulent transactions. However, Town is committed to sharing as much information about the transactions as possible, while protecting sensitive information that could compromise Town’s security.
Town of Lakeview (“Town”) Town is home to approximately 2,300 persons and is in Lake County, Oregon. The Town is managed by a Town Manager. The Town Manager oversees the public works department, fire department, 9-1-1 dispatch, and town hall administration. The public works department oversees the Town’s municipal utilities (water and wastewater) and transportation system (streets). The public works crew operates and maintains the public facilities and utilities that are provided by Town. Town Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
