Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Patrol deputies responded to a report of a reckless driver nearly striking several pedestrians in the Downing Road area of Central Point this morning at 9:39. Witnesses also reported the male driver pointed something at them, possibly a firearm.
Multiple JCSO deputies, Oregon State Police troopers, and Central Point Police Department officers attempted to locate the vehicle. At about 10:27, a deputy spotted the suspect vehicle traveling south on Table Rock Rd. The driver, later identified as Hector Jaime Vieyra, 38, of Grants Pass, then attempted to elude from police. The pursuit covered about 15 miles from Table Rock Rd., Hwy 234, Hwy 62, and onto Linn Rd. in Eagle Point where a deputy used a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver to disable the vehicle. Vieyra was taken into custody without incident.
During the pursuit the suspect was observed throwing items out of the vehicle near the Touvelle Tavern. A witness observed Vieyra throw out a package, which was retrieved and identified as over two grams of Methamphetamine.
Vieyra was lodged in the Jackson County Jail for multiple crimes including Attempted Elude, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Tampering with Evidence, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamines, Disorderly Conduct, and DUII - Controlled Substances.
