Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Search and Rescue (SAR) participated in a recertification training last weekend for the horses and SAR riders. One of the elements of the recertification process is crossing water (pictured here) and there are about 16 other criteria that each horse and rider must complete.
JCSO has eight horse mounted Search and Rescue personnel and 10 certified horses and mules. All members provide their own animals and each must meet certification requirements. The team trains each month in several areas of search and rescue situations to keep the horse and rider proficient. Recently the team introduced leading pack animals to assist in carrying necessary equipment into the backcountry.
