In preparation for the rebuilding stage of the recovery from the Almeda and South Obenchain Fires, Jackson County is opening the Wildfire Resiliency Permit Center (WRPC) starting on Monday, September 20. The WRPC will provide expedited plan review and permits for fire-affected properties that are in the unincorporated areas of the county. Properties that are located inside the city limits of Phoenix or Talent are issued permits by those cities' building and planning departments.
The Wildfire Resiliency Permit Center is located at 808 West Main Street, Medford
The Center will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“The Center will be staffed with both Jackson County Development Services staff and third-party experts from 4-Leaf, Inc. that are trained for serving those after a disaster,” shares Jackson County Development Services Director Ted Zuk. “We owe a special thanks to State Representative Pam Marsh and State Senator Jeff Golden for their efforts to secure funding for this effort.”
The Wildfire Resiliency Center is funded through the Municipal Wildfire Assistance Program (MWAP). Jackson County will be looking to also add programs and assistance to the Center in the future. For instance, there will soon be available grant monies to be dispersed to those rebuilding for costs associated with “fire hardening” their residences. This money will apply to all survivors inside the burn areas and not just the unincorporated County. The WRPC is envisioned as a resource center for the rebuild beyond just permitting. "Our goal is, whether it is administered there or not, we will help point people to various resources and help in the process."
