GPHS Students Heading to South Africa this Summer

41

Four Grants Pass High School students are headed to South Africa this summer!

Naia Olivier, Emilio Gonzalez, Abbie Wright, and Isaiah Williams will spend three weeks in Cape Town, South Africa, working on projects that bring South African President Nelson Mandela’s legacy to life. Service projects range from mural painting to maintenance at local hospitals and assisting the homeless. When they are not working on projects, they will take field trips around the region to experience the full gamut of South African culture.

"Once-in-a-lifetime excursions include a trip to Robben Island, where Mandela was imprisoned from 1964–1982 for leading the resistance to apartheid. Other trips take you to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At the end of it all, you’ll take time to put the history you’ve absorbed into context and reflect on a global experience you’ll never forget." - CIEE Global Navigator High School Study Abroad Program

Only 10 students in the entire state of Oregon received full scholarships to attend the CIEE summer opportunity. Project Youth+ was a big supporter in helping our students apply.

Congratulations to these outstanding students. We look forward to hearing about their experience when they return!
